Paul Tonkinson, or ‘Tonks’ as we know him, is a well-established and truly superb stand-up comedian. Hailing from the mighty Scarborough, you probably best know him for his work presenting The Big Breakfast and The Sunday Show. On the comedy circuit, Tonks continues to be a master at working a crowd, possessing an overwhelming sense of warm, cheeky fun within his material, which gently teases an audience. Book Paul Tonkinson and you’re getting a top class comedian, with a confident, spirited delivery, whose performances are one of a kind (it’s a bit like watching a cartoon character come to life).
‘The Funny One’
Known as ‘The Funny One’ during his time on TV, Paul’s a dab hand at mimicry and accents. His anecdotes are charming, and cover themes that most of us can relate to: like the North-South divide, fatherhood and long term relationships. Tonks is also a die-hard Manchester Utd supporter and regularly appears on football chat and tribute shows.
A Class Act
Appearing on Radio as well as TV, Tonks appeared on the box on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow. He’s been one of our favourite acts since he started out, back in the early nineties – when Paul was the winner of the 1992 Time Out New Act of the Year Award. He then went on to win the Time Out Stand Up Comic of the Year award in 1997 and became the first comic to perform in Iraq after the war officially ended.
