Nina began as an actor before theatre director Ken Campbell encouraged her to explore ventriloquism, opening the door to a distinctive comic world.
Her live work brings together characters, improvisation and inventive exchanges with the audience. Monkey is a familiar companion, while her ventriloquist masks allow audience participants to become part of the performance.
Her solo show Complete and Utter Conti won the Barry Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2008. Television appearances include Live at the Apollo and QI, alongside acting in Christopher Guest’s Family Tree.
Behind the camera. Nina’s documentary Her Master’s Voice followed a journey with the puppets of her mentor, Ken Campbell. It earned a BAFTA nomination and a Grierson Award. Her documentary work also includes Clowning Around, about training as a hospital clown.
Her narrative feature debut as director, Sunlight, premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2024. She co-wrote and co-starred with Shenoah Allen, with Christopher Guest as executive producer. The film extends the imaginative use of character and puppetry that runs through her live work.
